And lately I have not felt very well about my Cronh's Disease. I know it when I feel sore and my abdomen inflates because of certain foods and stresses. But always the Universe, or Big Brother who sees everything and knows, begins to give me the information that one needs at the right time. Thus appeared some Facebook posts and some emails all praising the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric. So I got carried away by the current and decided to be brave and try it.
Turmeric has been used for centuries in the health system of China and India as a potent anti-inflammatory and treat various conditions like flatulence, jaundice, menstrual difficulties, blood in the urine, bleeding, dental pain, bruising, pain Chest and colic. There are also new discoveries that turmeric is also very beneficial for patients with Irritable Colon Syndrome, Cronh's Disease, rheumatoid arthritis, cystic fibrosis, and even are credited with cancer prevention benefits. And more mundane, turmeric is what imparts the yellow color to mustard and curry.
KarmaFree Cooking - Turmeric Turmeric Tea
You can get fresh turmeric roots in many supermarkets today. I bought fresh turmeric at The Boys Farmer's Market, at Freshmart and even at Econo of Altamira here in Puerto Rico . Many people confuse it and think it is ginger, but its powerful yellow color betrays it for leagues. You also get turmeric in supplement form at many health stores. Here is a photo of a recent visit to Whole Foods in Florida.

I've been drinking turmeric tea for several months already ... and like any natural remedy or treatment the consistency and persistence is key to seeing the desired results. After taking it daily for 2 consecutive weeks I began to see that my abdomen did not inflate as before, I noticed a reduction in the inflammation of the inside of my eyelids due to my constant allergies, until I noticed a considerable reduction in the hemorrhoidal tissue ... Sorry for the TMI and the oversharing, but I want you to know all the advantages I have experienced. I ask you now to erase that mental picture that you believe them and let's go to how I prepare my turmeric tea daily ...
Turmeric Turmeric Tea
CREAM TEA
1 - 2 medium pieces of fresh turmeric
4 cups water
Pour the water into a large pot. Grate roots of turmeric in the water.
Boil the water with grated turmeric for 20 minutes.
Let the tea stand and drink it warm. You can sweeten it with a little black sugar, agave nectar, coconut sugar or honey if you wish.
The amount of tea you can prepare with 4 cups of water yields 3 servings of about 12oz.
Some important facts about turmeric:
Turmeric stains a lot ... so I prefer to use paper towels when I'm working with it. If your kitchen countertops are a little stained with root or tea, just clean it quickly with Fantastik or Bar Keeper's Friend as fast as possible, so that no stain will stick.
Fresh Curcuma Stained Hands
When you scratch it, your hands and grater will turn yellow. The key is to wash it as soon as possible with pure scrubbing liquid. I pour a dash of Dawn scouring liquid into a Scotch sponge and give the grater to it to keep it color stainless steel and not gilded. With washing your hands a few times, the yellow spots will go away, but if you want to take care of a manicure that has cost you a little face, wear protective gloves.
Turmeric Yellow Stains
If this stains your hands, it will probably stain your teeth also when drinking it. I try to brush my teeth after drinking it, but I do not always do it. My mom suggested that I drink the tea with a sorbet to avoid a little that my teeth are stained ... I am sincere, I always forget.
Store the fresh roots in the refrigerator to be kept longer. I've also frozen them. When they are frozen they are much harder to grate by hand, the tea does not have such an intense color to boil it and, in my opinion, as it is not so powerful and effective.
When you boil turmeric, you create bubbles - very similar to the bubbles that are created in the water when boiling pasta or potatoes. To prevent these bubbles from leaving the pot and get everything in their way, place a wooden spoon on the pot so that the bubbles remain contained in the pot. Believe me, those bubbles have made a stir in my kitchen many more times than I wanted to admit. Try to stay sloped at first and as soon as you see that the liquid starts to boil, lower the fire to keep the liquid boiling, but without boiling so aggressively that bubbles form.
Boiling Turmeric or Turmeric Tea
To prevent tea from staining my ceramic cups, I drink turmeric tea into cups for hot stainless steel liquids. They do not stain and are easy to clean with a scrub sponge. My stainless steel pots wash immediately that I finished all the pot tea with Bar Keeper's Friend. I bet if I teach them my pots, they do not know which of them I make the tea daily.
