A healthy life means a happy and long life! And who doesn’t want to live long and be happy along the way?
We have a couple of tips for you in this regard, which I’m sure you’ve heard before but it doesn’t hurt to hear them again and again right?
1. Keep your cholesterol levels under control!
High cholesterol levels are a major risk for heart illness. For women things are a little risky, especially if we’re talking over 55 years. You can prevent that by adopting a diet poor in saturated fats. Don’t consume more than 300 mg of cholesterol daily. If this means cutting down the meat supply in your fridge, so be it! Your heart is more important to your life!
2. Watch your weight!
It’s not about vanity, it’s pure health. You have a greater risk of elevated blood pressure if you have 9 kg or more above your recommended weight. Additional weight is a major trigger for some health issue like diabetes, heart diseases, obesity. If you want to avoid all these, it’s time to change your diet: less carbs, sweets and foods rich in fats.
3. Eat fruits and vegetables!
I’m sure this one you’ve heard more often. This means it’s true right? Any diet rich in fruits and vegetables is associated with lower levels of cholesterol. Some studies suggest there is a certain link between the intake of certain fruits and vegetables and a reduced risk of developing cancer. All fruits and vegetables are good! You’ll just have to find the ones that work best for you and your lifestyle. Don’t be afraid to try something new now and then.
4. Exercise! Exercise!
All healthy diets are linked to physical exercises. Take 8-10 minutes every day to do some exercise. I know, you’re life it’s hectic, most of the time 24 hours are not enough for all you have to do in a day…but take 8-10 from your trip to the supermarkets (where let’s be honest we tend to spend more time than we need) and DO YOUR EXERCISE! You’ll develop great muscles and prevent osteoporosis. And you know what a bitch it can be, especially for women. Great muscles mean a better life, a healthier body, a smoother skin, reduced risk of heart and respiratory disease.
5. Pay attention to your feelings!
Our lives are chaotic, crazy and stressful. Keep an eye to your state of mind, to your mood. A bad, emotional mood will harm your body too. Have a problem? Deal with it, it sure ain’t gone disappear! Smile every day. Surround yourself with people that make you laugh. They say laughter is the best medicine!
6. Rest!
It’s ok to party now and then, but nights are destined for sleep. Try not to forget that and sleep as much as you can at night. Magical things happen in your organism when you sleep at night. Your brain and body recover and prepare for a new day.
7. Don’t forget about your daily fiber intake!
High fiber levels in your body mean optimal control of the levels of sugar in your blood, protecting you against several types of cancer. Eat fruits, vegetables, brown rice, brown sugar, cereals, oatmeal, etc. Fibers help you maintain a healthy bowl movement, reducing constipation and the risk of colon cancer. Also, fibers make you feel full for a longer period after a meal. Fibers are very good for people with diabetes and who want to lose weight.
8. Have dinner as early as you can!
Avoid going to be feeling like you’re about to explode, because your body won’t be able to burn all the calories from your last meal. Also, very late dinners are known to provoke sleep disorders, and we’ve already pointed how important is a good night’s sleep.
9. Drink lots of water!
Water is health and beauty. Water is life. Drink at least 2 l of water a day. The human body is 75% water. Water is vital for a healthy diet. It cleanses our body from toxins and waste, especially kidneys and bladder. Drink more water every day and your metabolism will boost its efficiency with 30%. Higher metabolism rate means more control over your weight. A good body weight means lower risk of heart disease. See how they are all linked together?
10. Stop smoking!
Last but not least and surely not less important for a healthier life. We can debate all we want over this, but all in all, smoking was not, is not and it’s not ever going to help you live a healthy life. I’m not going to start enumerate all the diseases caused or “helped” by your smoking. I’m sure everyone is aware of them. So all I say is: take a bold and smart decision for your life and stop smoking.
