Malnutrition Overcome Through the Family Assistance Program
Surabaya, eHealth. Beginning this March, the Head of Puskesmas (Kapus) in Surabaya city back together to perform a routine meeting. This time, the coordination is given to the surrounding Jamkesmas Kapus, SIK (Health Information System), the procurement of drugs, traditional healers direction, especially also about the Family Assistance Program which is a replacement of Gemes Program.
As described by the Head of Surabaya City Health Office, dr. Esty Martiana Rachmie, that the factors causing malnutrition is not only due to the weak family economy, but also behavior and family efforts to provide the nutritional needs of children. Family understanding about good nutrition was also greatly affect a child’s nutritional state.
Through this program, the families in the city of Surabaya with a toddler with malnutrition will be accompanied by his companion who has more information about nutrition. A total of 99 assistants, 67 of them graduates of Diploma of Nutrition, Nutrition 22 from S1, and 10 people from the Faculty of Public Health. Each of them were assigned to assist 25 families from 25 Toddlers who suffer from malnutrition.
“In Surabaya malnutrition cases less than 2500, while the companion was held (handle, Red) of about 20 families,” said dr. Sri Setyani, Head of Health Services in Surabaya City health office when giving explanations to the Kapus. “However, do not close the possibility to get extra,” he continued.
He said that the Kapus are expected to cooperate and facilitate them well. “There are a few cadres who think they (the companion, Red) was just doing research, when they served,” he explained. He also hopes, through Kapus will be coordination to the cadre and also the district in explaining the duties of the escort.
“The result did not look down (number of malnutrition, Red) drastic, but this (mentoring, Red) is we invest for a couple years,” said dr. Sri.
Earlier, in his speech, dr. Esty also revealed that nutrition is an important issue. He hopes the Kapus can put this nutritional problem a top priority. “It is his leading sector is the official nutrition, but not all left to the nutrition officer.”
Mother of three is called for every aspect of the health center to support nutrition programs.
